Tadamitsu Ooka

Japanese: 大岡忠光 - おおおか・ただみつ
Tadamitsu Ooka
Year of death: April 26, 10 of the Horeki era (June 9, 1760)
Year of birth: 1709
A shogunate official and feudal lord in the mid-Edo period. Commonly known as Hyogo, Shuzen. Son of shogunate official Sukeshichiro Tadatoshi. In 1724 (Kyoho 9), he became a page to Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune's eldest son Ieshige and was given 300 bales of rice, and in 1739 he was appointed Izumo no Kami (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade). In 1745, he was given an additional 500 koku, and his rice was changed to a local fief of 800 koku. In 1739 (Genbun 4), he became an apprentice official toritsugi, and in 1745 (Enkyo 2), following Yoshimune's retirement and Ieshige's succession to the Shogun family, he was promoted to the rank of Kosei-gumi clerk. The following year, he became an attendant official toritsugi and was given an additional 1,200 koku. In 1748 (Kan'en 1), he was given an additional 3,000 koku, and in 1751 (Horeki 1), he was given an additional 5,000 koku, making him a daimyo with 10,000 koku. In the fourth year, he was promoted to young councilor of Okukane Obi with an additional stipend of 5,000 koku, and in the sixth year, he was appointed chamberlain and was promoted to Junior Fourth Rank, Lower, and became the lord of Iwatsuki Castle with a fief of 20,000 koku. It is said that Tadamitsu's rise to power was due to the fact that he was the only one who could understand the will of Ieshige, who spoke inarticulate language, but because he was a humble person, he was not very arrogant.
