〘Noun〙 A type of porridge eaten on December 8th at Zen temples and elsewhere. It is called porridge made by boiling a small amount of miso and sake lees chopped into squares (Sui, Teijo Miscellany (c. 1784)) or porridge made by boiling sweet sake with mochi rice cakes, roasted chestnuts, and finely chopped rape leaves inside (Kinri Nyobo Nainaiki (1772)). 〘名〙一二月八日、禅寺その他で食べるかゆの一種。みそと四角に刻んだ酒のかすを少し入れて煮たかゆ（随・貞丈雑記（1784頃））とも、甘酒を入れて、中にもち、焼きぐり、菜の葉を細かに刻んで煮たかゆ（禁裡女房内々記（1772か））ともいう。五味粥(ごみじゅく)。臘八粥(ろうはちかゆ)。うんぞうがい。温糟(うんぞう)。《季・冬》※虎明本狂言・文蔵（室町末‐近世初）「釈尊の、しはす八日の山出にきこしめされて御身をあたためられた。それはうんざうかゆと云物の事にてあらふず」
