…a mammal of the family Canidae in the order Carnivora. Also known as the domestic dog. It is the oldest domesticated animal and is found everywhere humans live, with over 400 different breeds. As such, their appearance is extremely variable, but all dogs share the characteristics of the family Canidae, genus Canis, and subgenus Canis, as described below.

Domestic dogs vary greatly in size, from the Chihuahua, which stands 15-20 cm tall and weighs 0.5-2.5 kg, to the Irish Wolfhound, which stands 95 cm tall, and the St. Bernard, which weighs over 110 kg. They also vary in limb and snout length, hair length, density and color, ear shape and size, tail shape, and more.
