In Buddhism, sculptures and painted images are the main objects of worship. Generally, it refers only to sculptures, while paintings are called Buddhist paintings to distinguish them. For Buddhist paintings, please refer to the relevant section. Also, there are cases where it refers only to statues of Buddha, and cases where it refers to all Buddhist statues collectively; it is necessary to distinguish between the former as Buddha statues and the latter as Buddhist images. Buddha statues were originally limited to Shaka Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, but over time this gave rise to the ideas of past Buddhas and a thousand Buddhas, and in Mahayana Buddhism, Buddhas (also called Tathagata) such as Amida, Ashuku, Yakushi, Vairocana, and Dainichi were devised.
