...According to the "Ichisensho History" submitted to the government by a group of hairdressers during the Kyoho era (1716-36), this originates from the fact that a hairdresser named Kitakoji Toushichiro was rewarded for saving Tokugawa Ieyasu from a critical condition during the Battle of Mikatagahara. However, in reality, it is believed that the name "Ichimonsori" originates from the fact that in the early days of hairdressing, a bed was set up by the roadside and passersby were shaved and styled for one mon when asked, and that this was called "Ichimonsori," from which the name "Ichisensori" and "Ichisensho" came to be. The standard hairdressing fee before the Tenpo Reforms (1842) was 28 mon, with 15 ties per month costing 400 mon, and 6 ties per month costing 148 mon. ...
