The locomotor organ of annelids. It is widely found in creeping or swimming species of polychaetes such as worms, sandworms, and worms. When these animals move forward, they move each peduncle back and forth like the legs of other animals. When moving backwards, the peduncle extends and touches the ground to support the body, while when moving forwards, it contracts and is raised above the ground. The movement of these peduncle is regular, with the left and right peduncle of each body segment moving alternately. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
