French scholar of Greek literature. Born in Geneva to a Huguenot family, he was taught classical languages ​​by his father from an early age, and in 1596 he studied Greek literature while lecturing in Latin literature at the University of Montpellier. In 1599 he was invited by King Henry IV to travel to Paris as a lecturer at the court, and in 1604 he became deputy director of the Royal Library. After the king's assassination (1610), he visited England and died there. He is buried in Westminster Abbey. His contributions in the editing and commentary of ancient literary and historical works are numerous, but his main works include his commentaries on Strabo (1587), his editing and commentary on Theophrastus's Various Men (1592), his editing and commentary on Suetonius (1595), his variant readings of Theocritus (1596), his editing and commentary on Athenaeus (1597) (1600), his Historiae Augustae Scriptores (the title given by Casobon to a collection of biographies of the Roman emperors from 117 to 284, 1603), Persius (1605), and Polybius (1609).

フランスのギリシア文学研究家。ジュネーブのユグノーの家に生まれ,幼時より父から古典語の手ほどきを受け,1596年モンペリエ大学でラテン文学を講じるかたわら,ギリシア文学を研究。99年アンリ4世の招きでパリに赴き,宮廷講師,1604年王立図書館長次席となり,王の暗殺(1610)後イギリスを訪ね,その地で没した。墓はウェストミンスター・アベーにある。彼の古代文学・歴史作品の校訂・注釈の業績は多岐にわたるが,主たるものは《ストラボン》注釈(1587),テオフラストスの《人さまざま》の校訂と注釈(1592),《スエトニウス》(1595),《テオクリトス》異読研究(1596),《アテナイオス》(1597)と注記(1600),《ヒストリアエ・アウグスタエ・スクリプトレス》(117‐284年のローマ歴代皇帝の諸伝記集にカソボンが付した題名,1603),《ペルシウス》(1605),《ポリュビオス》(1609)などの校訂と注釈が挙げられる。
