A former town in Higashitonami County in western Toyama Prefecture. The main settlement, Aoshima, is located at the mouth of the valley where the Shogawa River flows into the Tonami alluvial fan. The town is a thriving woodworking industry, with lumber being collected and distributed. It is a tourist base for Omaki Onsen, Yudani Onsen, Shogawa Gorge, and the Gokayama region. 富山県西部，東砺波(ひがしとなみ)郡の旧町。主集落の青島は庄川が砺波扇状地に出る谷口にあり，木材を集散し木工業が盛ん。大牧温泉，湯谷(ゆだに)温泉，庄川峡，五箇山(ごかやま)地方の観光基地。種もみの生産が盛ん。2004年11月砺波市へ編入。30.74km2。7251人（2003）。
