Enver Paşa

1881‐1922
A soldier and politician in the final years of the Ottoman Empire. Born in Istanbul. Graduated from the Military Academy and Military University. In 1903, he was assigned to the Macedonian 3rd Army, where he participated in counter-guerilla operations and joined the Committee of Unity and Progress. In 1908, he infiltrated the Macedonian mountain region during the uprising and led the Young Turk Revolution. After the constitution was restored, he went to Istanbul, but was unable to take up a key position and instead became a military attaché in Berlin. When the Istanbul rebellion broke out in 1909, he returned to Turkey and became chief of staff of the suppression army. He served in the Libyan War in 2011 and the Balkan War in 2012-13, and became a national hero for his military achievements.

オスマン帝国末期の軍人，政治家。イスタンブールに生まれる。陸軍士官学校･陸軍大学卒。1903年マケドニアの第3軍配属，対ゲリラ作戦に従事し，統一と進歩委員会に加入した。08年蜂起してマケドニア山岳地帯に潜入し，青年トルコ革命を指導，憲法復活後イスタンブールに入ったが，要職に就けずベルリン駐在武官となった。09年イスタンブールの反乱が起こるや，帰国し鎮圧軍参謀長となり，11年リビア戦争，12‐13年バルカン戦争に従軍し，その戦功により国民的英雄となった。
