Isuka Burial Mounds

Japanese:
Isuka Burial Mounds
<br /> A group of ancient tombs scattered on the hills from Hamuro in Taishi-cho, Minamikawachi-gun, Osaka Prefecture to Isuka and Higashiyama in Kanan- cho . The 270 ancient tombs are mostly small circular tombs, with a few square tombs as well, each built in groups of several to several dozen. Most of the circular tombs are small, measuring 15 to 20 meters in diameter, and except for a few that have a wooden coffin as the main part of the burial, the main part of the burial is a horizontal stone chamber. Two to four stone or wooden coffins are often placed inside the stone chamber, and the grave goods are distinctive, including a hearth and a miniature steamer . Judging from the sueki pottery that has been excavated, it is believed that construction of the ancient tombs began in the first half of the 6th century and ended in the early to early 7th century. Based on the miniature rice cookers used as ritual implements, it is assumed that immigrant clans were involved in the construction of this group of burial mounds. The area along the east bank of the Ishikawa River from Shinagadani to the Isuka Burial Mounds is also known as Chikatsu Asuka , and is said to be the area where a group of immigrants from Baekje settled in the 6th century. Around the same time, the close relationship between this area and the Soga clan, who emerged as a new power in the Yamato government, is also well known. As it has high academic value in understanding the social situation under the Yamato government in the late Kofun period, it was designated a national historic site in 1994. It is currently maintained and open to the public as the Osaka Prefectural Chikatsu Asuka Fudoki no Oka. Take the Kongo Bus from Kishi Station on the Kintetsu Nagano Line to the "Hannan Neopolis" stop, and walk for about 5 minutes.
