α-Naphthol Reaction - α-Naphthol Reaction

...One of the color reactions of carbohydrates. Also known as the α-naphthol reaction. After adding 2-3 drops of a 5-15% alcohol solution of α-naphthol to the sample solution in a test tube and mixing it, tilt the test tube and gently add concentrated sulfuric acid along the side of the tube. The concentrated sulfuric acid, which has a higher specific gravity, sinks to the bottom and forms two layers.
