A military commander in the early Muromachi period. Son of the second Kamakura kubo, Ashikaga Ujimitsu. In 1398 (Oei 5), he succeeded his father Ujimitsu as the Kamakura kubo at the age of 21, and was appointed Left Horse Captain, Junior Fifth Rank (later becoming Left Guard Captain, Junior Fourth Rank). The following year, in 1399, in order to strengthen his control over southern Oshu, he dispatched his younger brothers Mitsusada and Mitsutada to southern Oshu as Inamura Gosho and Sasagawa Gosho, respectively. At the end of the same year, he attempted to march to Kyoto to support the powerful shugo daimyo Ouchi Yoshihiro in the Oei Rebellion, but gave up after Yoshihiro's defeat and the Kanto Kanrei Uesugi Norisada's admonition. He died of illness on July 22, 1600, at the age of 32. He was buried at Zuisenji Shokoin in Kamakura. His posthumous name was Shokoin Taigaku Doan.
