...Okushima was a manor owned by Enryaku-ji Temple throughout the Middle Ages, and in the Kamakura Period there were continuous disputes between the manor officials and the people over the setting of fishing nets and fishing nets on the shores of Lake Biwa. Even after the Northern and Southern Courts Period, conflicts continued due to Enryaku-ji Temple's illegal use of the people. On the island are Chomei-ji Temple and Oshima Okutsushima Shrine, and the documents of Oshima Okutsushima Shrine are particularly famous as historical materials that show the community cohesion of the people of Okushima in the Middle Ages.
