Arab alchemist from around 721 to around 815. His Latin name was Geber. His father was a Shiite apothecary in the Khorasan region who plotted rebellion against the Umayyad dynasty and was killed for this. Jabir was born in Tus in this region and was also a devout Shiite. He stayed in his father's hometown of Kufa for a long time, but was invited by the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid to go to Baghdad and become his court physician, and also gained the favor of the Barmak family. During this time, he immediately cured the illness of Yahya's favorite concubine with an elixir (called elixir in Latin and usually compared to the philosopher's stone), and is said to have gained great trust from him.
