Founded in 1937 as Tokyo Automobile Industry Co., Ltd., separated Hino Motors Co., Ltd. in 1942, and changed its name to the current one in 1949. In 1953, it entered the passenger car market. Its main production is trucks and buses, and its diesel car technology is world-class. In 1971, it entered into a comprehensive partnership with General Motors (GM). In 1997, it strengthened its relationship with the GM group by supplying diesel engines to GM, and in 2003, GM agreed to a capital increase of approximately 100 billion yen. However, as GM's performance deteriorated, the company was forced to raise funds by selling shares in its partner companies, and in April 2006, it dissolved the capital partnership that had lasted 35 years. In November of the same year, it entered into a capital and business partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation. It has the largest domestic market share for small trucks. Head office in Tokyo, factories in Tochigi and Fujisawa. In 2011, the company had capital of 40.6 billion yen, sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 of 1.4155 trillion yen, and a consolidated net profit of 51.5 billion yen. The sales breakdown (%) is large and medium-sized vehicles 23, small and other vehicles 39, overseas-produced parts 5, engines and components 13, and others 19. Overseas sales ratio is 65%.
