An Islamic mystical sect that spread throughout North Africa, primarily in Libya. Its founder was Muhammad bin Ali al-Sanoushi. Influenced by Ahmad bin Idris, the sect was founded in Mecca in 1837 and moved its headquarters to Libya, where it launched a large-scale resistance movement against Italy, which had just advanced into Libya. When Libya gained independence in 1951, the head of the sect became king, but the sect's influence has been weak since the abolition of the monarchy in 1969.

リビアを中心に北アフリカに広がったイスラム神秘主義教団。開祖はムハンマド・ブン・アリー・アッサヌーシー。アフマド・ブン・イドリースに影響を受けて1837年メッカで教団を創設，本拠をリビアに移し，折しもリビアへ進出していたイタリアに対して大規模な抵抗運動を展開した。1951年のリビア独立に際しては教団の長が国王となったが，1969年の王制廃止以降の教勢はふるわない。
