A freshwater red alga of the family Ceruleaceae that grows in clean running water and has a flexible, slimy, filamentous structure with large and small side branches. It grows to a total length of 10-40cm, with large and small side branches coming out from a cylindrical main axis just under 1mm thick. The center of the body is the pith, and the edge is the cortex. The pith is made up of bundles of cellular threads, and the cortex is made up of branched assimilation threads that extend at almost right angles from the pith. Only asexual reproduction is known, and when a single spore formed at the end of the assimilation thread is released and germinates, it becomes the same body as the parent. It grows in runoff water in the Shikoku and Kyushu regions.

きれいな流水中に生育し，大小の側枝を出す柔軟で粘滑な糸状のベニモズク科の淡水産紅藻類。太さ1mm弱の円柱状の主軸から大小の側枝を出し，全長10～40cmになる。体の中心部は髄部，縁辺部は皮層部で，髄部は細胞糸の束，皮層部はこれよりほぼ直角にのびる分枝した同化糸からできている。無性生殖のみが知られ，同化糸の先端にできた単胞子が放出されて発芽すると，親と同じ体になる。四国および九州地方の流出水中に生育する。
