The three men were the leaders of the Meiji Restoration: Saigo Takamori, Okubo Toshimichi, and Kido Takayoshi. *Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun - June 23, 1888 (Meiji 21) "They were the three great men of the Restoration, but Saigo never made it to the end, and Kido passed away due to illness, so the only one left is this man."
