Pica - Eating Disorder

Japanese: 異食症 - いしょくしょう

Also known as dysphagia or dysgeusia. Repeated eating of non-nutritious foods such as paper, soil, nails, or insects, or excessive preference for the same food or drink, or for vinegar or spicy foods that go beyond the range of preference. It can be caused by nervous disorders such as manic depression or hysteria, malnutrition, or nutritional disorders caused by parasitic diseases, and mild cases can also be seen during pregnancy. In infants, it is more likely to be seen in those with severe iron deficiency anemia, mental retardation, mental disorders, or aftereffects of encephalitis.

異嗜(いし)症，あるいは異味症とも。栄養のない紙，土，爪，虫などをくり返し食べたり，同じ食品や飲料，嗜好の範囲を超えた酢味，辛味などを，極端に偏って食べること。躁鬱(そううつ)病やヒステリーなどの神経障害，栄養失調，寄生虫症による栄養障害によって生じるほか，軽度のものは，妊娠時にもみられる。また，幼児では，高度の鉄欠乏性貧血のほか，精神発達遅滞，精神障害や脳炎後遺症をもつ場合にみられやすい。
