Paramyosin

Japanese: パラミオシン（英語表記）paramyosin

A structural protein in the muscles of invertebrates such as mollusks. Muscles such as the adductor muscles of bivalve mollusks have the ability to generate large forces for long periods of time while remaining in a shortened state without tiring, and these muscles have a high paramyosin content, some of which can reach 50%. A slender, rod-shaped molecule with a length of 133 nm, a diameter of 2 nm, and a molecular weight of about 220,000. Most of it consists of two identical polypeptide chains with an α-helical structure. It forms regular rod-shaped assemblies, around which myosin binds to form the thick filaments of muscle.

軟体動物などの無脊椎動物の筋肉の構造タンパク質。二枚貝の閉殻筋などは大きな力を長時間発生しながら疲労せずに短縮状態を保つ能力をもっているが，これらの筋肉ではパラミオシン含量が高く，50％に達するものがある。長さ133nm，直径2nmの細長い，分子量約22万の棒状分子。大部分がα‐らせん構造の2本の同一ポリペプチド鎖から成る。規則正しい棒状会合体を形成し，そのまわりにミオシンを結合して筋肉の太いフィラメントを構築する。
