This change is thought to have been made with the wisdom and planning of chefs who wanted to change the status of the food by changing it to something auspicious. In other words, since there are tens of thousands of eggs in one brood, the interpretation that "kadonoko" means "herring roe," which means "herring roe," was a way to curry favor with those in power.
