Kastoria - Kastoria (English spelling)

The capital of Kastoria Prefecture in the western part of Macedonia in northern Greece. It is located on the western shore of Lake Kastoria (also known as Lake Orestias). It has a population of 16,200 (2003 estimate). It is a trading center for timber and furs. After being invaded by the Normans, Franks, and Serbs, it came under the control of the Ottoman Turkish Empire in the mid-15th century and flourished as a key trading point. There are many unique buildings, including Byzantine churches such as the 11th century Church of Panaya Kvelidiki, and the mansions of great merchants from the Ottoman Turkish period. The ruins of the ancient capital, Keletron, are located nearby.

ギリシア北部、マケドニア地方西部のカストリア県の県都。カストリア湖（別名オレスティアス湖）西岸に位置する。人口1万6200（2003推計）。木材、毛皮の集散地。ノルマン、フランク、セルビアの侵略を受け、15世紀中葉よりオスマン・トルコ帝国の支配下に入り、交易上の要地として栄えた。11世紀のパナヤ・クベリディキ教会などのビザンティン時代の教会や、オスマン・トルコ支配時代の大商人の屋敷など、独特の建築物が多い。付近に古代の都ケレトロンKeletronの遺跡がある。
