...The pass is the watershed of the Sasaya Highway (National Route 286) that crosses the Ou Mountains and connects Sendai City and Yamagata City, and is 906 meters above sea level. 500 meters southeast of the pass are the remains of Uyamaya Pass, known from an ancient song. In the early modern period, the pass was a bustling one, with rice, wheat, safflower, and other crops being transported, and Sasaya (on the Miyagi side) and Sekizawa (on the Yamagata side) were bustling villages along the pass.
