No UV absorption. A water-soluble basic substance that is insoluble in methanol, acetone, and chloroform. It binds to the 30 S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and inhibits the initiation reaction of protein synthesis. It is used as a pesticide against the rice blast fungus Piricularia oryzae . LD 50 2000 mg/kg (mouse, intravenous injection).
