Kasugamycin

C ₁₄ H ₂₅ N ₃ O ₉ (379.37). An aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Streptomyces kasugaensis . The hydrochloride salt forms white needle-like crystals. Decomposition point 202-204 °C. +120° (water). No UV absorption. A water-soluble basic substance that is insoluble in methanol, acetone, and chloroform. It binds to the 30 S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and inhibits the initiation reaction of protein synthesis. It is used as a pesticide against the rice blast fungus Piricularia oryzae .
