...The tradition established by Choin was inherited by Shimanaka Yusaku, whose liberal editorial style was often subject to the suppression of freedom of speech during the fascist period in the 1930s and 1940s. The Ishikawa Tatsuzo "Living Soldier" incident was a prime example of this, and the magazine was forced to cease publication in 1944 following the Yokohama incident. It was republished with the January 1946 issue after World War II. ...
