Oedo Culture

...Traditionally, its decadence has been emphasized, but in recent years it has been positively evaluated as a period in which an urban, popular culture was formed, centered in Edo, and which, because it expanded to the provinces as well, promoted the formation of a national culture that paved the way for modernity.

The Bunka culture, also known as the Great Edo culture, is characterized in its cultural history by the fact that it developed mainly in Edo. To put it simply, the majority of the writers, painters, and actors who were responsible for the cultural production of this period were Edo residents, and they were mainly active and produced their works in Edo.
