It is an animal of the Loris family in the Primates order of the Mammalia class. It is a prosimian with one genus and one species. It is found in a small area of ​​tropical rainforests in West Africa. Its head and body are 20-30 cm long, and its tail is short, less than 1 cm. Its hair is thick and golden brown. Its eyes are shiny gold. Only the second toe of its hind legs has a claw, and the second and third toes of its front legs are degenerate. It prefers forests with many fallen trees, and mainly uses undergrowth up to a height of 5 meters, and often descends to the forest floor. It mainly eats insects and also eats a small amount of fruit. It is a solitary, nocturnal animal that hides among the leaves during the day, clutching branches with its limbs and sleeping with its head tucked between its forelimbs.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱霊長目ロリス科の動物。1属1種の原猿。西アフリカの狭い範囲の熱帯多雨林に分布する。頭胴長20~30センチメートル、尾は短く1センチメートルたらずである。体毛はふさふさと密生し金茶色。目は金色に光る。後肢の第2指にのみ鉤(かぎ)づめがあり、前肢の第2、第3指は退化している。風倒木の多い林を好み、おもに高さ5メートルまでの下生えを利用し、しばしば林床にも降りる。昆虫を主食とし果実も少し食べる。夜行性の単独生活者で、昼間は葉の間に隠れ、四肢で枝を握り締め、前肢の間に頭を突っ込んで眠る。
