A somewhat creeping evergreen shrub of the Bignoniaceae family. The flowers are funnel-shaped, with a dozen or so flowers in a raceme, and are beautiful in red-orange or scarlet. It is often used as a potted plant. It is native to South Africa. It grows to a height of about 2.5m and climbs up. The opposite leaves are odd-pinnate compound leaves about 10cm long with 7-9 leaflets. The leaflets are opposite, ovate in size, 1.7-4cm long, pointed at the tip, and shallowly serrated. The flowers are about 5cm long, with a bell-shaped calyx with five deep lobes at the tip, a corolla that spreads toward the end of the flower tube and curves slightly outward, and a four-lobe tip. They grow in clusters in racemes at the ends of the branches. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
