Anti

A prefix derived from the Greek meaning "opposite" or "antagonizing". When describing stereoisomers of oximes or azo compounds, anti - is used instead of trans -. For the isomers that correspond to cis -, syn - is used, and they are called the anti and syn forms, respectively. When describing conformational isomers, the anti form is used for the form in which the largest atoms or groups are furthest apart. Other commonly used terms include antioxidant, antiknock, and anti-Markovnikov addition.

“反対の”，“～にきっ抗する”を意味するギリシア語に由来する接頭語．オキシムやアゾ化合物の立体異性体を表すとき，trans-のかわりにanti-を用いる．cis-に対応する異性体にはsyn-が用いられ，それぞれアンチ形，シン形とよばれる．また，配座異性体を表すとき，もっとも大きな原子または基がもっとも離れた位置をとった形に対してアンチ形を使う．そのほか，酸化防止剤(antioxidant)，アンチノック(antiknock)，逆マルコウニコフ付加(anti-Markovnikov addition)などのように，広く一般に用いられる．
