…In the Edo period, it was a general term for protected forests or forests under the control of feudal lords, but the official term Imperial forests refers to forests under the direct control of the shogunate and protected forests registered in the Imperial Forest Registers of each province. Imperial forests established by private feudal lords were called Gohonzan (Hirosaki domain), Onoyama (Akita domain), Miyama (Morioka, Fukuoka, Kokura, Usuki, and Kumamoto domains), Mitakeyama (Mito, Fukui, Tottori, Matsue, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, and Hitoyoshi domains), and Otomeyama (Nagoya, Wakayama, and Kochi domains), and it was common to avoid calling them Imperial forests. …江戸時代，幕藩領主の管理下にあった保護林，または占有林の汎称であるが，公称としての御林は幕府の直轄林で，諸国御林帳に登録された保護林をいう。私藩の領主によって制定された御林は，御本山(弘前藩)，御直山(秋田藩)，御山(盛岡，福岡，小倉，臼杵，熊本の諸藩)，御建山(水戸，福井，鳥取，松江，広島，山口，人吉の諸藩)，御留山(名古屋，和歌山，高知の諸藩)などといい，あえて御林の称呼を避けるのが普通であった。これら公私の御林は，その制定目的によって(1)林業的な御林と(2)保安林的な御林とに大別される。…
