According to the Kojiki and Nihon shoki, he was the 20th emperor. He is also called Emperor Anaho. He is said to be the first of the Wa kings who appeared in the Song Shu. His father was Emperor Ingyō. His mother was Oshisaka no Onakahime no Mikoto. He killed Emperor Ingyō's son Prince Karu and ascended to the throne, and made his capital in Isonokami Anaho Palace (near Tamachi, Tenri City) in Yamato. In February of the first year of the reign, he believed the slander of Sakamoto no Omi's Sokon no Omi and killed his uncle Prince Okusaka, and brought Prince Nakashihime's wife into the palace, making her empress, and he greatly favored her. In August of the third year of the reign, while taking a nap on the Empress's lap, he was stabbed to death by Prince Mayowa, a seven-year-old son of Princess Nakatsuhime and Prince Okusaka. He was 56 years old at the time. Three years later, he was buried in the mausoleum of Sugawara no Fushimi (Horaicho, Nara City).
