Aleksandrovsk‐Sakhalinskii
A seaport on the northwest coast of Sakhalin Island (Karafuto) in the Russian Federation. Population 8,500 (1991). With the Due Coal Mine to the south, it is not only the center of the coal industry, but also prosperous fishing and forestry industries. There is also a mining school, a medical school, and a normal school. In 1881, it was established as the Aleksandrovsk sentry post to monitor the Tatar Strait, and before the October Revolution, it was the office of the military governor in charge of the penal colony and prisons on Sakhalin Island. In 1890, the writer Chekhov stayed here for research, and the following year, in 1891, he published his research report, Sakhalin Island.

ロシア連邦,サハリン島(樺太)北西岸の海港。人口8500(1991)。南にドゥエ炭鉱があって石炭産業の中心地であるばかりでなく,漁業・林業等がさかん。鉱山学校,医療学校,師範学校も設置されている。1881年タタール海峡の監視のため,アレクサンドロフスク哨所として設けられ,十月革命前にはサハリン島の徒刑監獄や流刑植民地を管轄する軍務知事の政庁があった。90年には作家チェーホフが調査のためこの地に滞在し,翌91年調査報告《サハリン島》が生まれた。
