A former town in Yatsuka County, eastern Shimane Prefecture, on the south shore of Lake Shinji. The San'in Main Line runs through the town. The town developed around Tamatsukuri Onsen. The spring contains salt and gypsum, and the temperature is 50-70°C. Many visitors are staying overnight, both medical patients and visitors to Izumo Taisha Shrine. The number of commuters to Matsue City and Shinji Town (now Matsue City) is increasing, and the town is also developing into residential areas. Mount Kasen is an agate producing area, and Fujina ware is a specialty. There is the Izumo Tamasaku site (historic site), and Tamasakuyu Shrine houses many excavated agate artifacts.
