An island in Ago Bay in the central-eastern part of Mie Prefecture. It belongs to Shima City. It is 1.3 km east to west, 0.7 km north to south, and has an area of 0.66 square kilometers. It is separated from the mainland by a 20-meter strait, but is connected to the mainland by the Kashikojima Ohashi Bridge (a 153-meter arch bridge) and the Kintetsu Shima Line. Since 1970 (Showa 45), when Kintetsu Railway switched to a wide gauge line and express trains were connected to Osaka and Nagoya, it has become a base for tourism in Okushima. There are hotels, inns, Shima Marineland, and more. Tourist boats for tours of Ago Bay and regular ferry boats connecting the islands in the bay depart from the pier at the southern end.
