...During this uprising, a fierce conflict arose between the faction of the head priest Sugimoto Sakon and the faction of the priest Uemura Buzen in the land of Hakusan Shrine in Itoshiro under the jurisdiction of the Gujo Domain, and the faction of the Sugimoto faction, who had been driven out of Itoshiro by the Gujo Domain, filed palanquin lawsuits and box lawsuits with the shogunate in 1756-58, complaining about the injustice of the Uemura faction. Finally, in 1758, the shogunate handed down judgments on both cases, resulting in many casualties, including 13 death sentences in the peasant uprising and Uemura Buzen in the Itoshiro riots, but on the other hand, the domain lord Kanamori Yorinishige's land was confiscated, and senior councilor Honda Masatoshi, young councilor Honda Tadao, o-metsuke Magabuchi Hidemoto, finance magistrate Ohashi Chikayoshi, and Mino county magistrate Aoki Jirokuro were punished with the removal of their duties and confiscation of their fiefs. Since the bakufu officials appointed after this were connected to the Tanuma administration, the Gujo Rebellion is considered to have been a turning point for the shogunate government. *Some of the terminology used in reference to the "Itoshiro Incident" is listed below.
