Ascocentrum
A small epiphytic orchid that produces numerous clusters of small flowers. Several species are found from eastern India to Indonesia, and all are attractive ornamental plants. The stem is upright, about 15 cm long, with thick leaves growing alternately on both sides, and the flower stalk rises straight up from the leaf axil, producing numerous flowers with a diameter of about 1.5 cm, forming a cylindrical shape. The flower colors include pink, red, and yellow-orange. In Japan, the flowering season is often from spring to early summer. The species seen in Japan are A. ampullaceum Schltr. and A. miniatum Schltr.

小型で多数の小花を総状につける着生ラン。インド東部からインドネシアに数種が分布し,いずれもかわいらしく観賞に供される。茎は直立し,15cm前後,左右に肉厚の葉を互生し,花茎は葉腋(ようえき)から直上し,花径1.5cmくらいの花を多数つけ,円筒状になる。花色は桃色,赤,黄橙など。花期は日本では春から初夏が多い。日本で見かけるのはアスコセントルム・アンプラケウムA.ampullaceum Schltr.,アスコセントルム・ミニアツムA.miniatum Schltr.である。
