Cotinga (Cotinga)

Japanese: カザリドリ(飾鳥) - カザリドリ（英語表記）cotinga

A general term for birds of the Cotingidae family of passerines. They are found in the tropical regions of Central and South America. The smallest species is the Yellow-breasted Cotingidae, Calyptura cristata , which is about 8 cm long, while the largest is the Ornatus Umbrella, Cephalopterus ornatus (illustration), which is about 50 cm long. However, most species are 15 to 20 cm long. Males are generally more beautiful than females, and stand out with their vivid colors such as white, purple, green, and red, depending on the species.

スズメ目カザリドリ科Cotingidaeの鳥の総称。中央･南アメリカの熱帯地域に分布している。もっとも小さい種はキクイタダキカザリドリCalyptura cristataで全長約8cm，最大種はカサドリCephalopterus ornatus（イラスト）で全長約50cmもある。しかし，大部分の種は全長15～20cm。一般に雄は雌より美しく，種によって白色，紫色，緑色，赤色などの鮮やかな色で目だつ。
