Yellow-throated marten

Japanese: キエリテン - きえりてん（英語表記）yellow-throated marten

A large, long-tailed, bright yellow-necked mammal of the Mustelidae family (illustration). It lives in forested areas from the Amur, Ussuri, northeastern China, and Korean Peninsula in the north to Taiwan, Indochina, Java, Borneo, and southern India in the south. Body length 48-80 cm, tail length 37-45 cm, weight 2-3 kg. Its tail is longer than that of other martens, taking up almost two-thirds of its body length, and it has coarse fur. The back of its body is yellowish brown and gradually becomes black toward the rear, while its lower back and tail are black-brown. Its throat, neck, and prothorax are orange-yellow and bordered by a black band running from its black head to its neck, making it extremely beautiful.

大型で尾が長く，首が鮮やかな黄色の食肉目イタチ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。北はアムール，ウスリー地方，中国東北部，朝鮮半島から南は台湾，インドシナ，ジャワ，ボルネオ，インド南部までの森林地帯にすむ。体長48～80cm，尾長37～45cm，体重2～3kg。他のテンより尾が長く，体長のほとんど2/3に達し，体の毛が荒い。体の背面は黄褐色で後ろへしだいに黒くなり，腰と尾は黒褐色。のど，首，前胸はオレンジ色を帯びた黄色で，黒色の頭から首側に走る黒帯で縁取られ，きわめて美しい。
