Originally a name for a classical Arabic poetic form, it developed as an important form of Persian, Turkish, and Urdu lyric poetry. As a musical term, ghazal refers to the style of reciting classical poetry created in this form in each language, or to a form of song that follows the ghazal poetic form. In North India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, Urdu (or Persian) poetry is sung in relatively short, light tala (6, 7, or 8 beats) to melodies based on North Indian ragas, and since the expression of the lyrics is more important than in ragas, it is classified as light classical music, which is similar to classical music. In the late 1970s, pop ghazals were born, with young Indian singers such as Jagjit and Chitra Singh singing to easy-listening melodies backed by orchestras. →Related topics Qawwali | Thumri Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
