Erudite and skilled in oratory, he was appointed poet laureate by Emperor Maximilian. Following in the footsteps of S. Brand, he wrote Die Narrenbeschwörung (1512) (The Calling of Fools). He also opposed the Reformation and mocked Luther in Von dem grossen Lutherischen Narren, wie ihn Dr. Murner beschworen hat (22) (Luther's Great Fool).
