Old Historical School (English spelling: ältere historische Schule; older historical school)

Among the German historical schools, this school was represented by W. Roscher, K. Knies, B. Hildebrand, and others before the founding of the Society for Social Policy (1873). It is also called the early historical school, and is a name that distinguishes it from the new historical school represented by G. Schmoller and others. The old historical school was critical of British classical economics since A. Smith, arguing that it placed too much emphasis on the individual. However, since the labor problem as a social issue was not yet a pressing theme, it was left as a topic for the later new historical school.

ドイツの歴史学派のうち社会政策学会設立 (1873) 以前の W.ロッシャー，K.クニース，B.ヒルデブラントらによって代表される一派。前期歴史学派とも呼ばれ，特に G.シュモラーらに代表される新歴史学派と区別した呼称である。旧歴史学派は A.スミス以来のイギリス古典派経済学が個人を重視しすぎているとして批判的な立場をとった。しかし，社会問題としての労働者問題はまだ切実なテーマではなかったため，のちの新歴史学派の課題として残されることになった。
