Arai

A district of Takasago City in southern Hyogo Prefecture. Formerly Arai Village. Located on the Kakogawa delta, it was a farming village known for salt production in the mid-modern period. River improvements and the establishment of the Noda Soy Sauce (now Kikkoman) factory in the early Showa period and the Army Arsenal during World War II led to the area being turned into an urban area as factories moved in with the reclaiming of the beach after the war. Recently, Takasago Industrial Park (industrial complex) has been developed in Shinhama. Arai Station on the Sanyo Electric Railway Main Line is located here.

兵庫県南部、高砂市(たかさごし)の一地区。旧荒井村。加古川三角州上に位置し、近世中期には製塩業で知られた農村であった。河川改修と、昭和初年の野田醤油(しょうゆ)（現、キッコーマン）の工場、第二次世界大戦中の陸軍工廠(こうしょう)の設置に始まり、大戦後の海浜埋立てによる工場進出で、宅地化とともに市街地となった。最近では、新浜に高砂工業公園（産業団地）が造成されている。山陽電鉄本線荒井駅がある。
