Xiamen University - Xiamen da-xue (English name)

Japanese: 厦門大学 - アモイだいがく（英語表記）Xia-men da-xue

A national comprehensive university in China. Founded in 1921 as a private university in Xiamen, Guangdong Province, China, with full financial support from overseas Chinese, Chen Jiageng. It became a national university in 1937, and was evacuated to Changting County, Fujian Province during the Sino-Japanese War. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the university underwent a complete reorganization and became a comprehensive university in 1954. In 1962, it was designated a national key university. It has colleges of economics, political science, law, arts, education, science and engineering, and more. It also offers correspondence courses for students living overseas. It has affiliated research institutes such as the Institute of Chinese Literature, the Taiwan Institute, and the Institute of Higher Education. It has approximately 7,700 students and 1,500 faculty members (1997).

中国の国立総合大学。 1921年に華僑，陳嘉庚の全面的資金援助により，中国広東省のアモイに私立大学として発足。 37年に国立大学となり，日中戦争中は福建省長汀県に疎開。中華人民共和国建国後の大学組織の全面的再編成を経て，54年に総合大学となる。 62年には全国重点大学に指定。経済学，政治学・法学，芸術・教育学，理工学などの学院をおく。海外在住者のための通信教育も実施。中国文学研究所，台湾研究所，高等教育研究所などの付属研究機関を有する。学生数約 7700名，教員数約 1500名 (1997) 。
