Douglas fir
Also known as Douglas fir or Douglas fir. An evergreen tall tree of the pine family. Found along the Pacific coast of North America. Some are said to reach a height of 90m, and are known as the tallest tree species in the world along with the sequoia. The crown is narrowly conical, and the bark of large trees is vertically fissured. The leaves are linear and dark green. Monoecious. Flowers in April. The fruits are narrowly oval and drooping, ripening to a light brown color in October. It has been experimentally planted in Japan, but growth is poor. The timber is used for building materials, pulp, etc.
