[Died] June 14, 1927, Northampton. British humorist. Popular for his mild, unassuming style of writing. His works include Three Men in a Boat (1889) and Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow (1889). He also wrote comedies.

[Died] January 10, 1904. Paris. French painter and sculptor. A 19th century French academic artist. A pupil of P. Delaroche, his drawings are characterized by an Ingres-like style. In 1863 he became a teacher at the École des Beaux-Arts. His representative works include the painting "Fighting Cocks" (1847) and the sculpture "Belloune".
