Japanese: ルーバー

A louver sash is a sash made by assembling long, thin boards called slats in parallel with gaps between them in a frame. It is used in a variety of places because it can selectively block or allow wind, rain, light, dust, and people's views to pass through depending on the angle at which the slats are attached. When attached to openings in walls or ceilings, it is called a "shutter" if the louvers can be opened and closed together with the frame, and a "garari" if they are fixed in place. There are also louver sashes with glass slats and movable horizontal louvers. The angle of the slats can be adjusted by operating the operator handle, making it easy to adjust the ventilation.

羽板(はいた)と呼ばれる細長い板を、枠組みに隙間をあけて平行に組んだもの。羽板の取付角度によって、風・雨・光・埃・人の目線などを、選択的に遮断したり透過したりすることができるため、さまざまな箇所で用いられる。壁や天井の開口部に取り付けられる際、ルーバーが枠ごと開閉できる場合は「鎧戸」、はめ殺しになっている場合は「ガラリ」と呼ばれる。羽根板がガラス製で可動型の水平ルーバー形状のルーバーサッシなどもある。オペレーターハンドルの操作で羽根板の角度を調整できるため、換気の調整が容易にできる。
