Flemish miniature painter. Born in Ghent, he joined the Bruges booksellers' guild as a master in 1508. Together with his father, Alexander B. (?-1519), he ran a large manuscript workshop in Bruges. He painted full-page or marginal miniatures of breviaries and hours in lavish colors in response to orders from clergy and wealthy laypeople throughout Europe, and made the activities of the Bruges manuscript workshop known throughout Europe. His representative manuscripts include the Hennessy Hours (Brussels), Grimani Breviary (collaboration, Venice), and the Book of Golf (London).

フランドルの細密画家。ヘントに生まれ，1508年ブリュージュの書籍業組合に親方として入会。父アレクサンダーAlexander B.(？‐1519)と共に，ブリュージュで大規模な写本工房を営む。ヨーロッパ各地の聖職者や富裕な平信徒の注文に応じて，豪華な色彩で聖務日課書や時禱書の全ページまたは欄外余白に細密画(ミニアチュール)を描き，ブリュージュの写本工房の活動をヨーロッパ中に知らせた。代表的写本は《ヘネシーの時禱書》(ブリュッセル)，《グリマーニの聖務日課書》(共同制作，ベネチア)，《ゴルフの書》(ロンドン)など。
