In the case of Japanese texts, manual phototypesetters require the operator to search for the necessary characters on the glass dial and press the shutter lever one by one according to the manuscript, so the limit is a few hundred characters per hour. To increase the efficiency of this process, computer typesetting (abbreviated as CTS), which combines phototypesetters with computers, was developed and has made remarkable progress. It is also called computerized phototypesetter, and systems such as Photon and Supton are examples of this type.
