Also abbreviated as ARS. An enzyme that specifically bonds amino acids that match the code in the anticodon to transfer RNA (tRNA). Therefore, there are specific ARSs for each of the 20 types of amino acids. This enzyme is essential for the accurate transfer of genetic information to amino acid sequences, and requires the ability to recognize the fine structure of tRNA with great precision. In the presence of ATP, it activates amino acids and esterifies the amino acid to the adenosine at the 3' end of tRNA to create aminoacyl-tRNA.
