A shell shaped like an upturned cap (illustration). A general term for snail shells belonging to the families Patellidae, Acmaeidae, and Siphonariidae, or one of these. The limpet Cellana mazatlandica belongs to the family Patellidae, and has a large, cone-shaped shell measuring 5 cm in height, 7 cm in length, and 6 cm in width. 笠を伏せたような形の貝類(イラスト)。ユキノカサガイ科Patellidae,ツタノハガイ科Acmaeidae,カラマツガイ科Siphonariidaeに属する巻貝の総称,またはその内の1種を指す。 カサガイCellana mazatlandicaはツタノハガイ科に属し,殻は大型で円錐形,高さ5cm,長さ7cm,幅6cmになる。黄色の地に黒斑があり,表面に太い放射状の肋がある。内面は弱い真珠光沢がある。
