Japanese: カサガイ(笠貝) - カサガイ

A shell shaped like an upturned cap (illustration). A general term for snail shells belonging to the families Patellidae, Acmaeidae, and Siphonariidae, or one of these. The limpet Cellana mazatlandica belongs to the family Patellidae, and has a large, cone-shaped shell measuring 5 cm in height, 7 cm in length, and 6 cm in width. It has black spots on a yellow background and thick radial ribs on the surface. The inside has a faint pearlescent luster.

笠を伏せたような形の貝類（イラスト）。ユキノカサガイ科Patellidae，ツタノハガイ科Acmaeidae，カラマツガイ科Siphonariidaeに属する巻貝の総称，またはその内の1種を指す。　カサガイCellana mazatlandicaはツタノハガイ科に属し，殻は大型で円錐形，高さ5cm，長さ7cm，幅6cmになる。黄色の地に黒斑があり，表面に太い放射状の肋がある。内面は弱い真珠光沢がある。
